Mural at the Hood River Kids Park

A project with Arts in Education of the Gorge: https://www.gorgeartsined.org

In 2018 the community and city of Hood River rebuilt the kids park at Ninth and Eugene streets. The original structures were built with love by the community in a massive work project. For safety reasons the old park structures had to be demolished, but the donor name boards in the fence around the park were saved. In one weekend while the adults built the new park, the kids of Hood River and I built a picture of the old park using all the name boards from the old park.

We started with a drawing of the old play structure. The kids painted out the panels, then “built” the play structures with the old name boards. Over 100 kids worked for two days to create the mural. The piece was installed on the walls of the playgrounds bathrooms. We used the additional name boards to make a fence all the way around the building.
